What are the fuel policy options for my clients?

Fuel Policy Options

To ensure your clients have a smooth return process, it is important to explain the different refueling options available. All vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel and should ideally be returned full to avoid extra charges.

1. Refuel Before Return (Best Value)

The client refills the tank at a local petrol station (within 10 km of the return location) just before dropping off the car.

  • Agent Note: Advise your clients to keep their fuel receipt. Hertz staff may ask for it to verify the tank is truly full.

2. Fuel Purchase Option (FPO)

Your client can choose to pay for a full tank of fuel at the start of the rental at competitive market rates.

  • Benefit: The client can return the vehicle with any level of fuel without needing to visit a petrol station before the flight.
  • Drawback: No refunds are given for unused fuel. This option is best for clients who expect to use most of the tank.

3. Standard Refueling Service

If the client returns the vehicle with less than a full tank and has not purchased FPO, Hertz will charge for the missing fuel.

  • Costs: The fuel will be charged at a higher "assisted" price compared to local petrol stations.
  • Service Fee: A significant refueling service fee (approx. €36.00+) will be added on top of the fuel cost, the fee depends on the country.
  • Calculation: The missing fuel is calculated based either on the distance driven and the manufacturer's consumption rates or by the vehicle's fuel gauge equipment.
