Managing Additional Drivers
To ensure insurance validity and a legal rental experience, all persons driving the vehicle must be formally registered on the rental agreement. Here is what you need to know when booking for your clients.
1. The Main Driver
- Identity: The person named on the reservation is considered the Main Driver.
- Presence: The main driver must be present at the counter at the time of pick-up.
- Payment: They must be the payer of all rental charges and the owner of the credit card used for the security deposit.
- Security Restriction: For security reasons, a renter is not allowed to be a "non-driving" party if they are renting more than one vehicle at the same time.
2. Additional Drivers
If your client plans to share the driving duties, they can add additional drivers to the contract.
- Fees: An additional driver fee applies per day. This fee varies by country and is typically capped at a maximum amount per rental.
- Capacity: The number of additional drivers is limited by the legal seating capacity of the rented vehicle.
- Where to add: Additional drivers can be added at the start of the rental or at any Hertz branch within the same country during the rental period.
3. Special Exceptions (HB+ Program)
As an agent, take note of potential savings for your clients:
- HB+ Discount Number: If the booking is made using the HB+ program discount number, the additional driver fee is typically waived (free of charge).
4. Requirements & Restrictions
All additional drivers must meet the same requirements as the main driver:
- They must present a valid Driver’s License.
- They must meet the Age Restrictions for the specific vehicle category.
- Corporate Accounts: Policies for corporate customers may vary; please check the specific account terms if booking for a business client.
