Driver's License Requirements
To ensure your journey starts smoothly, it is important to bring the correct documentation. Depending on the vehicle you have chosen, specific driver’s license requirements and experience levels apply. Please review the following guidelines to make sure your license meets our rental standards.
At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid national driver's license. The required holding period for the license depends on the vehicle group (category) selected:
Minimum 2 Years of Driving Experience
A valid national driver's license held for at least 2 years is required for the following vehicle groups:
- A, A1, B, C, C1, D, E, E1, G, G1, H, N, N1, R, R1, S
Minimum 3 Years of Driving Experience
A valid national driver's license held for at least 3 years is required for the following vehicle groups:
- H5, K, K5, L, P, P1, Q, Q1, U, V, V1, V4
International Driving Permit (IDP)
For all Non-European Union renters, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is highly recommended.
- The IDP acts as a translation of your national license.
- Important: An IDP is not valid on its own. You must present your original national license along with the IDP at the rental desk.
Specific Requirements for Certain Countries
People's Republic of China Licenses issued in China are accepted only if accompanied by an official Hertz Certification form.
- This form must be issued by Hertz China on official notepaper, featuring the Hertz China Corporate seal and a scanned copy of the original license.
- Both the original license and the Certification form must be presented at the time of rental.
Vietnam If your driver's license was issued in Vietnam, you must present:
- The original license.
- An authorized translation issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport. Both documents must be provided together to be considered valid for rental.
